Independence day

Heads raised up, stretched legs, hitting the soil with all their strengths, these are the soldiers of Burundian army. Under the eyes of high authorities of the country, of which the President of the Republic of Burundi Pierre Nkurunziza, soldiers celebrated the independence. The rhythm of this cadence accompanied by the military music makes happy participants and assistants. Each one can remember that from the moment there are forty eight years this pride didn’t exist. It was a hard period! It is why the whole gratitude goes especially to the fathers of our independence especially Prince Louis Rwagasore.

Since Burundi conquered its independence in 1962, it became a ritual that everybody respects. It is the day of the big Burundian pride; each one has his or her place in this great demonstration before the admiration of the President of Republic. The enterprises, the associations etc. everybody was invited there.

But this pride does really guide the hearts of Burundians? This fruit of the abnegation of our fathers is not an example to follow?

We can remember that Mwambutsa when he knew his son’s death did, as king of Burundi and sovereign, speak in unison. He didn’t choose the violence as means to use in response.

After more than one month of political silence, whoever asks a lot of questions on the future that the political actors reserve in our dear homeland; exactly tempting to recover the face after a fratricidal war. The war was never a solution for a problem. Nowadays there is no one night without explosives taking lives of Burundians. In additional, they install a psychosis generalized in the population.

This war of words each throws the bullet in the other camp, Burundi is not anymore a land of experimentation. It is worth more than that! It is a country that has the sons and girls who want to grow in the peace and in the serenity. The opposition refuses to guaranty the legitimacy of the vote of May 27 and at the same time one of last June 28. The party on power doesn’t want anything to hear something like refusal; it remains the master of the country. While people wonder what the opposition prepares, will it know how to bend the positions of the party to the power, with landslide victories, by a non violent process? It is this fear to return in the scrub by the opposition that the people are undergoing. The people pray that it doesn’t arrive. Seen the members of the opposition that are everywhere sought-after in the country, it is with reason that the people is afraid of the following day.

The leader of the FNL, Agathon Rwasa, left the country because of his security that was threatened. The members of the political parties of the opposition are tracked here and there.

The situation in which is Burundi today is without ambiguity a situation of political confusion. The risk of degeneration in a civil war is big, since many weapons were not been taken back by the former men in weapons and worse they are immersed in the population.

48 years after our independence, one should stop deepening the wound of the Burundians and build a united country, a country of brothers and sisters, having a common history.
